Volunteer with us: Sound Desk Operator

Sound Desk Operators are needed at all Sunday Services and one-off services and events so there is plenty of opportunity to get involved!

Your Main responsibilities:

Pre-Service:

  • Confirm requests with worship leader/band

  • Set up equipment with musicians and select channels

  • Perform sound check, set up mics and distribute

During Service:

  • Mute/unmute, balance and equalise mics and music as needed

  • Manage playback of any backing tracks, or audio from presentation software

  • Manage livestream audio levels if required

  • Record ‘Talk’

  • Troubleshoot any sound issues quickly and calmly

After service:

  • Collect all mics and put batteries on to charge

  • Assist with pack down of band/choir, returning equipment to correct spot

  • Turn off sound desk, amps and all equipment

  • Report and defective equipment or issues to Sound Desk Leader or team

  • Where possible, speak with musicians to collect any feedback

No formal qualifications are needed to fulfill this volunteer role, but an ear for sound and a calm head under pressure are a must. Full training is provided by Geoff Atkinson, Sound Desk Leader, and no one is asked to run a service alone before they are comfortable.

Our 9.15am, 11am and 6pm Sunday Services require a sound desk volunteer as well as one-off church events and special services. You’ll be expected to arrive in church at least 30-45 minutes before the service you are volunteering, or 1 hour before a special service or event begins.

This role is flexible, and operates on a rota, allowing you to volunteer as much or as little as you wish.
