Volunteer With Us: Communion Assistant

Communion Assistants help the Clergy provide Communion by preparing the elements, serving the congregation, and ensuring that Communion Services are organised and accessible for everyone.

Your Main Responsibilities:

  • Offer communion to all who request it - without prejudice or knowledge of their personal circumstances

  • Direct the flow of people coming forward to receive communion in order to keep everyone organised

  • Notify clergy when an individual may need communion bringing directly to their seat

  • Use one of the approved wordings for distribution of bread and wine

Communion Assistants are part of a rota, meaning you can put your name forward as little or as often as possible. We do expect volunteers to commit to attending when they’re on the rota, or finding themselves a replacement if their availability changes.

No particular training is required, but support can be provided from experienced Communion Assistants and Clergy.
