Volunteer with us: Coffee and Reading (8am)
Our 8am Sunday Service tends to be much smaller and more closely-knit than the other Sunday Services we offer. Therefore, the reading and the coffee/refreshments rotas are combined.
Our volunteers can put themselves forward to do either reading or refreshments, but oftentimes, volunteers offer to take both roles on together and find this manageable.
The role of a reader is to read aloud scripture passages from the lectern. The reading will be sent to you, so all you’ll need to do is turn up and read! The role of a Refreshments volunteer is to serve tea, coffee and refreshments to visitors at the end of the service.
Your Main Responsibilities:
Read through the chosen passage before attending the service to familiarise yourself, and ask the service leader if you’re unsure on any words or names.
Read the passage clearly and confidently to the congregation.
Turn on all kitchen equipment and prepare the countertops for service.
Serve all hot drinks with friendly service.
Clean down the kitchen and hatch, pull down the shutters, put items away and turn off all equipment.
This rota is very flexible, with the expectation that you might volunteer every three to four weeks – or as little or often as you would like really!
No particular training is required, but support can be provided from experienced readers and refreshments volunteers. You will be shown how to use all equipment before you begin.
